What is Glass Skin?
Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s got the clearest skin of all?
I’ll be honest. I laughed when I first heard of the Korean glass skin trend a few years ago. I didn’t know what it was. I made an intuitive leap and assumed it was talking about the more . . . fragile qualities of glass. Boy was I wrong!
Glass skin is all about a smooth texture and achieving a luminous glow.
You know?
Like glass.
I suppose it’s possible to attempt to achieve glass skin with the help of makeup - a good concealer and strategically marked highlights can help give the illusion that you’ve unlocked that glow - but true glass skin comes from within the skin.
What’s the secret?
It’s deceptively simple. Glass skin is all about moisture, and lots of it. In order for your skin to look and feel plump and glowy, you’re going to want to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. But what’s the point of hydrating if your skin can’t hold onto all that moisture?
When it comes to all things moisture barrier related, my go to is the Green Tea Seed Hyaluronic Serum. Formulated to be used after cleansing and before toner, this pre-serum is practically bursting at the seams with hydrating power. Not only does it help deliver moisture deep into your skin, it also helps to restore and maintain your moisture barrier.
Smooth out the edges
In addition to super well hydrated skin, that glassy look you’re after requires a smooth skin surface. Did you know that an uneven skin tone can make your skin appear dry and dull? An uneven skin tone is caused by blemishes (we’re talking acne marks, dark spots, skin redness) because they cause light to be reflected unevenly by your skin.
While there is no way to magically erase the blemishes that mark your skin, there are little tricks that we can use to diminish their appearance. I’ve always struggled with the occasional bouts of acne on my chin and the sides of my face (near my sideburns) so the skin there is marred a little by light scarring and red marks. The Vitamin C Green Tea Enzyme Brightening Serum took me the rest of the way, helping to brighten those blemishes and clear up those areas, leaving my skin looking overall more healthy and glowy.
Locked in
If you’ve been following our blog for a while, you know that my favorite moisturizer is the Green Tea Seed Cream. For me, it’s got the perfect balance of everything for my skin. But I also know that it can be a little too heavy for some people.
If you’re looking for something a little lighter that'll also deliver an extra little something, take a look at the Cherry Blossom Glow Jelly Cream. It’s got naturally-derived betaine which hydrates skin and leads to a dewy, glowing finish.
No Rose Colored Glasses
But as with any good skincare regimen, the true secret of glass skin is patience. And while it takes time to see the results, I can honestly tell you that they are worth it!
As always, good sleep, regular exercise, and a balanced diet will do a lot of the heavy lifting for you - so keep that in mind as you embark on your adventure.
Can’t wait to see where you glow!
