Why Exfoliating is Important in Summer
So fresh and so clean
A regular exfoliation schedule is the bedrock of any good skincare routine, but it’s especially important when hot and humid weather is part of the equation.
It’s during those sweltering days that your skin produces more sweat and sebum, attracting all sorts of dust and debris that are only too eager to clog your pores! Regular exfoliation can help you keep your skin free of the buildup of dead skin cells, reducing the possibility of whiteheads and blackheads developing before they have the chance to fester.
Exfoliating can also help to smooth your skin, making it appear more luminous and preparing it to better absorb the key ingredients of the products in your skincare routine.
Are all exfoliants the same?
There are two types of exfoliating you can do: mechanical exfoliation and chemical exfoliation. We’ve gone over it before, but in case you need a refresher: mechanical exfoliation physically removes the dirt and impurities (we’re talking scrubs and brushes) while chemical exfoliation uses chemicals (AHA/BHA/PHA) to dissolve the nasties.
Which exfoliating mask should I choose?
The Super Volcanic Pore Clay Mask is INNISFREE’s most popular exfoliating mask. It uses a combination of mechanical exfoliants (volcanic cluster powder and walnut shell powder) as well as AHA to absorb impurities and exfoliate the surface of the skin. A mask like this is best used once or twice a week – giving you a deep cleanse and a clean palette to work with.
If you have dry skin, a gentler, more hydrating mask may be a better solution for you. The Volcanic Swirl Pore Mask has a non-drying formula and is so mild that you can use it on a daily basis. It includes five types of hyaluronic acid to help add moisture back to your skin.
If you’ve already got a regular routine going on and you’d like to try something new, the Limited Edition Super Volcanic Pore Clay Mask [Cool Mint Chocolate] is ready for you to take it for a spin! Inspired by the delicious ice-cream flavor (a personal fave), it’s everything you love about the regular Super Volcanic Pore Clay Mask with the addition of grape seed powder and an intense cooling sensation – something that may come in clutch in this crazy heat!
Friendly reminder to be mindful when using products that contain exfoliating chemicals such as AHAs, BHAs, and PHAs. Combining chemical exfoliants with vitamin C or retinol-containing products is generally a no-no as the combination can be too harsh for the skin.
As always, the best choice for you is the product that you like and that works.
Happy scrubbing!
