Why You Need Sunscreen

The not-so-secret ingredient

The 10-step skincare routine, monthly facials, settling down with a sheet mask every evening - all of this effort to keep your skin looking and feeling good goes out the window if you’re skipping a very important step: sun care.

Of course, I’m being a tad hyperbolic. A good skincare routine plays a huge role in your general skin health, but leaving suncare out of the equation can make it a lot harder to reap the harvest of what you sow.

Why do we skip sunscreen?

For ages now, sunscreen has been shackled with the reputation of making our skin feel slick, sticky, and greasy - definitely something we’re not super keen to include in our look of the day. We may make excuses to skip it as a step: “I’m mostly going to be indoors today” or “my moisturizer already has SPF in it.”

But when we dodge this duty, we’re not thinking about how UV rays can reach us through clouds, through the glass of windows,  and definitely on the quick dash from our cars to our office buildings. While products with an SPF rating can help offer some protection, SPF only measures protection against UVB rays. For protection against UVA rays too, you’ll need to look for a PA rating (the more +s the higher the protection). Sun care products that protect against both UVA and UVB rays are commonly labeled “broad spectrum” sunscreens.

Is there a sunscreen for me?

There sure is! The best sunscreen for you is the one that checks these three boxes:

  • UVA protection
  • UVB protection
  • You’re going to use it

There’s no point buying the “best” sunscreen, or the most expensive sunscreen, if you’re not a big fan of its texture and will find ways to skip it, even occasionally. But don’t fret! Our options for suncare are only widening!

The Green Tea Hyaluronic Moist Sun Serum is not a moisturizer with sun protection features. Rather, it’s a sunscreen with additional skin care benefits. In addition to protecting your skin from sun damage, this product contains all the active ingredients of INNISFREE’s best-selling Green Tea Seed Hyaluronic Serum - delivering a delicious boost of hydration with every application.

If you live in a hot and humid climate like I do, you’ll be relieved to know that it also has a lightweight formula that performs well in this environment. As its name suggests, it’s got a texture like a serum that goes on easily, without any white cast, making re-application a cinch. You don’t even need to use a mirror!

Suncare if you care

UV damage is the number one culprit when it comes to the signs of premature aging. In the industry, we call it photoaging. Why wouldn’t you want to protect yourself from that? It’s like going out in torrential rain without your umbrella because you’re too lazy to open it.

Yes, some protection is better than none at all (looking at you SPF moisturizer), but a solid sun care routine is, perhaps, one of the best ways to take care of your skin and keep it looking and feeling good for as long as possible.
