What Lip Color Is Right for Me?
A Shade for Every Occasion
I loooove a good lip color!
There are, of course, days when all I want is my favourite moisturizing lip balm or lip butter, but there’s nothing quite like the confidence boost I get when I’m watching myself apply a stunning shade that complements my vibe for the day. Sometimes it can completely turn my mood around!
But there is a time and place for everything - no exceptions for your lip shade.
Looking under the hood
Before we touch upon colors and shades, we’ve gotta talk about skin undertones. There are three kinds of skin undertone that a person can have: cool undertone, warm undertone, and neutral undertone. Understanding your skin undertone can save you a big headache when it comes to finding colours that complement your complexion.
A quick way to catch a vibe of your skin undertone is taking a peek at the veins on the inside of your wrist. If your veins appear mainly green, you likely have a warm undertone; if they appear mainly blue, you probably have a cool undertone; and if it’s a mixture of the two, you might have a neutral undertone.
If you’re blessed with a neutral undertone, you won’t need to worry about more than the colour of the lipstick. But for our friends who have either cool or warm undertones, they will want to pick shades of colours to match their undertone. Cherry red, with it’s bluey and purple undertones will look great on a cool undertone, but it’s the oranges and golds in a brick red that complement the vibrance of a warm undertone.
Your skin tone can change over the course of the year and your life, but your undertone is there to stay! So now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s move on!
Bringin’ it at brunch
You know the feeling. Yeah, you’re getting up kind of early on a Saturday, but it's worth it as you’re putting the finishing touches on your #ootd. As the rays of the morning sun hit your face and you catch a glimpse of your reflection in the rearview mirror as you drive out to meet your friends, you’re glad you throw on a fun pink or orange to match the excitement of the first day of the weekend!
Owning the office
Nude shades have gotta be a #girlboss’s bff. There’s something sophisticated about a perfectly complementary nude lip shade in the office. The best part? It blends in with your natural lip color, which means you don’t have to worry so much about constant reapplication.
Making a statement
I think we all know what this one has to be. That’s right - we’re dancing the night away with a luscious, eye-catching red! Whether you go with a vivid bright red or class it up with a darker hue of the cardinal color, there’s no doubt you’re going to turn some heads. (As you very well should!)
Now, maybe it’s because I’m a millennial, but I’ve always been partial to matte lips - no matter the shade, which is why I love the Airy Matte Lipstick and the Airy Matte Lip Tint lines.
